What is an IEP?An IEP is a document that is written for a child after it is determined he/she is eligible for special education services. Eligibility is determined by our AEA representation at the request of the school AND the student's parents. The IEP is written collaboratively by the child’s special education teacher, general education teacher, administration, parents, etc. This team meets yearly to determine the appropriateness of the goals and services documented in the IEP. Within the IEP you will find documentation of the child’s strengths, areas of need, services provided, accommodations for success and goal areas.

How does special education work?
Students in my room are served through a resource room model. All of my students attend classes in the general education setting. As determined by their IEP, they receive support in these classes from myself or the two associates that work in my room. I work with each general education teacher to make sure that students' get the appropriate accommodations that are listed in their IEP. During their study hall period student's who have an IEP come to my room. During that 43 minutes time period, we work on their IEP goal areas, reteach concepts from the general education classes and assist with homework.
